Abbey Au Pairs - Au Pair Information

WHAT IS AN AU PAIR?

An Au Pair comes to England to live for a period of time as a member of your family improving her English and absorbing the English way of life. She is here to help with general housework and with care of the children.

Her great advantage to any family lies in her being educated, on the spot and flexible.

The Au Pair will usually stay with a family from 2 to 12 months.

WHAT TO EXPECT FROM AN AU PAIR

1-The maximum time that an Au Pair should be expected to perform light domestic tasks (such as cleaning, vacuuming, dusting, ironing) including childcare should not exceed 25 hours per week or 5 hours a day. The hours can be arranged to suit your busy life style.

2-Two evenings baby-sitting, one of which can be at the weekend, but not every Saturday.

3-Two whole days free per week free and some evenings.

4-Au pairs should be allowed to attend English classes, depending on the working hours and days you may wish him/her to work. This also would also depend on class schedules.

4-Your Au Pair needs her own room with a desk or table for studying.

5-Pocket money of a minimum £80 per week, full board and lodging.

6-Any extra time required above the time allocated should be paid for at a suggested minimum rate of £3.00 per hour.

The Au Pair arrangement is an excellent one giving families affordable childcare and help in the home, and giving young people the opportunity to study English and experience a different lifestyle and culture.
